Orange Tabby Rescued from Car Engine

Post Date:01/02/2020
Last month, the City of Rancho Cordova Animal Services Division received an emergency call explaining that there was a cat stuck in the engine block of a car in the Costco Rancho Cordova parking lot. Animal Services Officers Christopher Paiva and Krystle Judish responded to the call and found the cat in a bit of a predicament.

With help from employees at Costco Tire and Lee’s Automotive, they were able to disconnect some of the engine parts and pulled the orange tabby to safety. But who was his owner?

Thankfully, the orange tabby, Oliver, was microchipped, and much to their astonishment, the cat was from the Pocket and Greenhaven area. Oliver had hopped under the hood of his neighbor’s car and rode as a stowaway all the way to Rancho Cordova. Oliver and his owner were very happy to be reunited.

As the winter temperatures continue to drop, remember that cats and other small animals often take shelter on car engines and tires to keep warm. Something as simple as knocking on your car hood and checking tires can help save lives.
